Who made this: We're the Surcharge Sweep team. This helper and our checker are free, and we also sell a paid Price Reset Kit. You don't need the kit to use this page.

Disclaimer: General information only, not legal advice. This helper does the sums and drafts a notice. It can't tell you what to charge or whether your prices meet the law. Rules can change, so check the ACCC pages and confirm with your payment provider.

What the ACCC says

The ACCC's hair salon example:

A haircut costs $60 and the salon used to add a 1.0% credit card surcharge.

With its card costs built into the price, the haircut would be $60.60.

If the salon raises the price to $65 because its other costs went up too, it must not tell customers the rise is due to the card surcharging changes.

This helper uses the same sum. If you pick a higher price, the notice keeps the extra separate and doesn't call it a card cost.

Your price and old surcharge

It runs in this browser tab, so nothing you type is uploaded. This page loads no analytics or tracking scripts.

For example, Haircut. Used in the notice.

The price before any card surcharge, in dollars and cents.

For example, 1.5. Above 0% and under 100%.

Leave blank to use the new price worked out below. If you round up, the notice keeps the extra separate from the card cost.

Your new price

Not ready yet: fill in the details above.

New price = current price × (1 + rate ÷ 100)

Price with card costs built in:

This is what a card customer paid before, surcharge included. It isn't a recommendation. You can choose a different price, and your payment provider's statement shows what card payments really cost you.

    Customer notice

If you edit the notice, only call the card-cost part of the change a card cost. Show the full price everywhere the price appears. If you also offer a cash or PayID discount, our cash discount helper lays out that wording with the full price first.

Check the rest of your wording

Old card fee wording can be left behind on menus, your website and social posts. Our free checker can scan text you paste for leftover card fee wording.

Reworking a whole price list? Our Price Reset Kit (A$29, one-off) has a price calculator, a printable menu or price list, a customer notice and a staff script. The checker and the kit are both ours, and you don't need the kit to use this page. About the Price Reset Kit
